Employment Practices Liability

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPL) provides wrongful employment act coverage for suits primarily brought by company employees. These wrongful acts can vary broadly, but normally encompass Discrimination (often brought under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act), Wrongful Termination & Sexual Harassment.

Appropriate limits and available retentions vary significantly, when the metrics of company size, jurisdiction, human resources policies and procedures, and prior loss history of a named insured are considered by underwriters. These four factors can result in swings of more than 50% in premium expense for otherwise similar risk profiled companies.

The keys to minimizing exposure to employment-related litigation are fair and proactive employee relations, and equitable policies and procedures.
